Domaine de Grand Felin

Domain Grand Felin is superb venue for anglers and non anglers offering great fishing with carp to over 50lbs as well luxury accommodation, a swimming pool, hot tub and other non angler activities. Located in western France it is just over 3 hours drive from Caen ferry port and approximately 6 hours from Calais.

You will have exclusive use of 2 carp lakes as well as access to a private 700m strength of the river Vienne.

The accommodation which can sleep up to 9 guests (up to 8 adults and an under 14 year old) and has 3 large ensuite bedrooms – click on the ‘facilities’ tab for full details.

As well as fishing, there are activities on site to keep non anglers entertained. Please refer to the facilities tab for details. Domain Grand Felin is just half an hour from the historic town of Poitiers and there a plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes within a 15 minutes drive.

The lakes 

Just 200m (2 minute walk) from the accommodation are 2 private carp lakes which you will have exclusive use of.

Field Lake

The larger of the 2 lake, Field Lake, is 5.5 acres and holds between 145 to 160 carp to over 50lbs. In 2024, 19 different 40s were caught and 3 over 50lbs with an average size around 30lbs. There are around 15 grass carp present some of which are over 50lbs. The lake can be dated back over 45 years and when purchased by the current lake owners in 2022 held an unknown stock of carp which they have added to with new stockings.

A huge amount of work has gone into creating a superb fishery. The lake is largely weed free and snag free with mature trees and shrubs overhanging the banks. There is a small island in the middle and several sets of lily pads. There are 4 main swims each of which can easy accommodate a bivvy and provide plenty of water coverage.

If you enjoy under the rod tip stalking there’s plenty of gaps in between the main swims where you can fish one rod close in to the edge. Sit back, be stealthy and wait for an explosive take!

The Willows lake

The smaller of the 2 lakes, The Willows, is 2.5 acres and has 2 purpose built swims which can accommodate bivvys. At the time the photos have been taken there is quite a lot of weed in the lake, however the majority of this, but purposefully not all, will be removed ready for the start of the season.

The total stock is unknown and a limited amount of fishing has been done on this lake compared to the field lake. In 2024 there were 55 different carp caught to over 40lbs and 22 grass carp of which 2 of these were over 60lbs. Carp which look to be well in excess of 40lbs have been spotted by the lake owner with a decent amount of the stock yet to be caught, making it a very exciting lake. There are also plenty of stalking opportunities so you won’t be sat behind static rods for long!

River Vienne 

Just 28 metres from the gite is the famous river Vienne. You will have access to an exclusive 700m stretch of the river of which carp have been caught to over 50lbs, catfish to a monstrous 2.5 metres long as well as barbel, perch and pike. A fishing permit is required to be purchased which is 34 Euros per week or 14 Euros per day.
