Puyravaud – Kingfisher Lake: 09-08-2025 to 16-08-2025

The accommodation was exceptionally nice which was fully equipped and so many thoughtful extras supplied by the owners.
Steve and Kerry ( the owners) were so helpful, friendly and attentive. The grounds and surroundings were well maintained and offered a very relaxing atmosphere.
Unfortunately the fishing was very hard going. The weather was against us for our time on the lake, everyday was hot and sunny with temperatures in the high 30s all week. We didn’t catch anything which although was disappointing wasn’t a surprise. I have 40 years carp fishing experience and used all of that knowledge to stop a blank but it wasn’t to be. That’s fishing !!
I did feel that the lake was maybe a little under stocked for a French Dream Holiday destination and from speaking to the owner I also don’t think the fish see much in the way of anglers bait which of course can make the fish more reliant on natural food. This was certainly the case at Kingfisher Lake. Crayfish are an issue but the owner is visibly making an effort to curb this.
The fish were published as being an average weight of 45 lb and this certainly looked the case from the fish that I saw during various walks round the lake.
The only real issue I had was the price of the bait, €70 for 5 kg of an unspecified manufacturer bait ( they came in clear packaging )I feel was a bit high especially as anglers aren’t allowed to bring their own.
I’ve fished in France before at exclusive lakes and the bait hasn’t been anywhere near that price for known manufacturers.
I appreciate the owner has a business to run but €140 for the 10 kg I used not including the pellets used seems excessive.
It could be argued that it’s a bit of sour grapes because I didn’t catch but that’s my opinion.
