Moulin de Boutineau is a beautiful complex situated in the pristine Loire Valley Chateau and Vineyard region. It is home to Moulin lake that is stocked with 60 stunning carp up to 45lbs and 2.5 acres in size. The lake can be fished by up to 4 anglers.
The lake is just 35 yards from three lovely country courtyard cottages. So, as you enjoy your fishing adventure, your friends or family can relax in the country air, perhaps have a cold beer by the heated outdoor pool, take a wander around the orchard, rest in the hot tub or explore the 15 acres of beautiful French countryside that surrounds you here at Moulin de Boutineau. The cottages and lake are what remains of a 17th-century watermill and give you access to some breathtaking woods, fields and much more. Moulin de Boutineau, therefore, is a lovely place for the family that wants to unwind, fish and explore the countryside.
There is flat and easy access path all around the lake. There are five decked-swims perfect for teaching kids to fish. You will also have access to an island too.
The lake itself is stream-fed. There is an overflow that ensures excellent circulation and provides oxygen throughout the year. The lake is fed with underwater springs, so even in the hottest of summers, the lake never dries out. Moulin lake is lined with lots of species of mature trees and beautiful wildflowers. As a result, you’ll share the banks of Moulin lake with some very interesting wildlife including woodpeckers, kingfishers and red squirrels.
During the summer months (July to August), there is a non-exclusive fishing period where anyone can rent the cottages. However, even during these busy summer months, the lake is rarely fished by more than four anglers in a week. This means that there is always the perfect swim waiting for you on Moulin lake. However, larger groups do often book the entire complex to ensure the perfect, private fishing adventure.
The closed season at Moulin lake runs from mid-November to mid-March. During the close season the carp are still fed. Night fishing, during the season is permitted provided you are an experienced angler.
Moulin de Boutineau isn’t too remote, but the beautiful surroundings can make it feel like it is during your stay. A few kilometres up the road, you’ll find the famous medieval town of Loches. Loches has lots of amazing restaurants, bars, shops and a lively market twice a week too. The three beautiful cottages at Moulin de Boutineau have space for 2, 5 and 6 people and have all the amenities you’ll need to be more than comfortable and relax for the duration of your carp fishing trip.
Moulin de Boutineau is an easy three-hour drive from St Malo or Caen ferries, about four hours drive from Cherbourg and Le Havre, or you may consider flying. Flying from Stansted to Tours and hiring a car, you can arrive at Moulin de Boutineau in about 40 minutes.

The lake is kept well stocked and the owners add additional carp most years. These carp are selected and supplied by one of France’s best carp suppliers. Moulin lake also doesn’t have many problem fish, either. There are no catfish, crayfish or other nuisance fish.

The Bread Oven Cottage
The owners call the Bread Oven Cottage the Wendy-house for adults. This cottage is a beautiful old stone building with amazing oak beams and terracotta tiled floors. It also has a stunning and well-restored bread oven, hence the name. Don’t worry, you won’t need to learn to cook in the bread oven during your stay, the kitchen has a normal oven as well as all the other things you’ll need to prepare meals during your visit.

A range of tackle is available to hire if you wish to fly to France for your fishing trip. Of course, if you are driving to Moulin de Boutineau, you may also want to take advantage of our tackle hire as fishing gear can take up a lot of room in your car, as I’m sure you know already.
Tackle hire includes rods, rod pods, butt rests, reels loaded with 15lb line, 42-inch landing nets, unhooking mats, weigh slings and carp cradles. There is also bait buckets, umbrellas and water carriers too.
The cost of hiring one of everything mentioned above is 150 euros for the week. However, the owners are happy to discuss the hire of individual items if you have forgotten something or didn’t have space for it in the car!
Please note: end tackle, alarms or swingers are not provided. However, the bait cabin (our on-site tackle shop) does stock pre-tied rigs, hooks, leads, floats and more.
To make your carp fishing trip to Moulin de Boutineau a lot easier, there is a selection of baits that can be ordered prior to your visit. There is in-house bait that will suit any requirements and any type of fishing that you may want to do during your trip.
The range of baits include pop-ups, boilies, carp pellets and naturals. There is flavoured sweetcorn as well as ready-cooked hemp, particles and ground baits. A favourite with many anglers visiting Moulin de Boutineau is the house-special the “Moulin Rouge”. These are top-quality, 18mm boilies that are made with fresh ingredients and were developed for us by Loirbaits. They come fresh-frozen in 2-kilo bags in Moulin fish and Moulin fruit flavours.
Just let the owners know which baits you’ll need during your visit and how much of each bait you’ll require. You will need to let the owners know six weeks prior to your visit, to ensure your baits are ready to go when you arrive. You also have a fridge in all of the cottages that you may be staying in to ensure your baits are kept fresh during your stay.
To really enjoy yourself at Moulin de Boutineau, why not opt for the catered package. Your cottage has everything you need to prepare a lovely meal for you and your family, but why not relax and enjoy your fishing? Have a four-course meal cooked made with fresh, local ingredients.
You’ll dine in the comfort of your lovely cottage, or on your private terrace if you wish. Or, perhaps you would prefer the flower-filled courtyard. You choose the time and the wine, and the owners will ensure everything is ready for you after your amazing day of catching beautiful carp!
