Set in acres of picturesque countryside and surrounded by woodland, fields and a plethora of wildlife is a 7 acre lake called Lac Claudette. This crystal clear lake holds around 200 carp to over 60lbs with an average size of 30lbs. It can be fished by a maximum of 4 anglers.
The lake opens for the first time in 2022 having been virtually unfished for a number of years and unmaintained.
Lac Claudette is located in Mayenne in north west France. It is easy to access from the ferry ports of Caen and St Malo.
A lot of hard work has gone into the lake by the new owner. He has achieved a good balance in terms of preserving the lake’s natural and wild feel but also making it a pleasant and comfortable lake for anglers to spend a week fishing.
There are 6 swims which are spread along the main bank. It is an ideal lake for a social as all anglers are in close proximity but importantly still have plenty of water to fish to. You can even enjoy a BBQ with the rods only a quick sprint away! A rod pod is advisable as some of the swims are gravel and others can be hard to get bank sticks in during the summer months .
The lake is a spring fed gravel pit and bowl like in make-up, with many features to fish to and explore. Depths range from 40 feet in the middle, to 10 feet or less on the plateaus to around 2 feet on the far bank margins. Whilst there are many overhanging bushes, snags and fallen trees have been removed.
The far bank is steeply sloped with overhanging bushes that are regular patrol and holding areas for the carp. On the main bank the swims are set amongst many gorse bushes. There are also overhanging bushes as well as intimate bays. With so many ‘carpy’ looking spots, deciding where to position your rigs can be a challenging decision!
There is a boat which is available to be used. It is ideal for locating spots and especially for dropping rigs to the far margin.
This lake can be challenging at times (as can most lakes) and is for experienced anglers only.
