Clay Lake 1 lies less than a four-hour drive north of Calais. Originally a Cassini forest lake dating back 300 years, this enchanting lake is now home to mighty fighting carp weighing over 50lbs. Nestled within idyllic woodland, the lake offers a serene retreat rich in wildlife—a perfect escape for a carp fishing holiday.
The lake spans 2.3 acres and accommodates up to three anglers, with four spacious swims to choose from. Swims 1 and 2 are single swims situated close to each other so good for social fishing, swim 3 is a double swim and swim 4 is tucked away in the far corner of the lake by the dam wall.
The lake record stands at a 56lb common carp. Average depths range between 4.5 and 6.5 feet, with a clay lakebed that, although mostly uniform, features occasional drop-offs and pockets within the margins where fish often gather. An old riverbed, approximately 1.5 to 2 metres wide, runs through the lake from the dam wall to the sluice. There is no weed, hidden snags, crayfish, or poisson chat to interfere with your fishing. The lake which is situated next with the same grounds as Clay Lake 2, is situated on private land which is secure and closely monitored.
