Carp Lakes in Northern France for 2027: A Region-by-Region Guide

06 November, 2026

Updated November 2026 for the 2027 season.

Northern France is the easiest place for UK anglers to fish for big carp. Many lakes are just a few hours’ drive from the ferry ports or Eurotunnel. In this guide we cover the carp lakes we list across northern France, grouped by region. For each region we explain which ports make the most sense, then pick out the lakes we think are worth a look for 2027.

Looking for the shortest possible drive? See our dedicated guide to carp lakes near Calais, which compares the lakes closest to the port by distance, fish size and availability.

Getting to Northern France: Which Port to Use

Choosing the right crossing can save you hours of driving. As a rough guide:

  • Hauts-de-France, Champagne and the Paris area: Eurotunnel (Folkestone to Calais, about 35 minutes) or the Dover to Calais and Dover to Dunkirk ferries are the most direct.
  • Normandy: Newhaven to Dieppe, Portsmouth to Le Havre or Portsmouth to Caen will usually put you much closer than Calais, especially for lakes in central and lower Normandy.

Each lake listing shows the driving distance from every main port, so it is worth checking before you book your crossing. You can also compare ferry crossings here.
