Winter’s Lake is a family-operated carp fishing venue located in Brittany just south of Renne in north-west France. It is easily accessible from the main ferry ports with St Malo being the closest only 90 minutes away.

This mature, tree-lined lake spans 6 acres and is nestled in a tranquil, picturesque, and secluded countryside setting.

The lake is home to between 80 and 100 carp, with a lake record of a massive 72lbs and at least 15 carp over 50lbs. There are 4 swims, and the lake is available exclusively for bookings, accommodating a maximum of 4 anglers.

Swims

Willow Swim has an average depth of 7 to 7.5 feet, with a lake bed consisting mainly of clay and gravel. It provides access to steep margins, the end of the island, and expansive open water areas.

Tower Swim features an average depth of 6 feet, with a lake bed of clay, gravel, and clean silty areas. It offers access to the island, including its corner, a sheer drop on this side, and an open water bay with both hard and soft areas.

Lonely Swim has an average depth of 5 feet at the shallower end of the lake, with clay, gravel, and clean silty areas. It provides access to the end of the island with two open water bays on either side.

Gate Swim features an average depth of 4.5 feet at the shallower end, with 6 to 6.5 feet at the other end. It offers access to the side of the island, a shallower channel with a gradual slope, and a large open water area.

Lake Features

The lake’s depth ranges from 4.5 feet to 10 feet, featuring a large island—an excellent target for casting—as well as beautiful open water areas that offer various opportunities. Other notable features include weed beds, deep margins, and overhanging trees.

Seasonally, the underwater weed Potamogeton crispus is abundant in several areas around the lake. However, it is soft and non-tangly, making it easy to fish in and around. The lake bed is relatively uniform, consisting of a mixture of clay, clean silt, and gravel. There are no poisson-chat, but there are crayfish, which are most active in the height of summer. An all-year-round removal programme is in place for the crayfish.

The lake is self-sufficient in terms of nature, rich with natural food such as bloodworm, freshwater snails, and swan mussels. It can be a challenging water to fish, not a prolific run water, but it offers great rewards.

The lake is available for exclusive weekly bookings from Saturday to Saturday. The main season runs from March to November, with the winter season running from mid November to mid March. Lake exclusive bookings in the winter season is just £700. During this time per angler bookings will also be accepted for £175. Please send an enquiry for winter bookings.
