Oak Tree Lake

Oak Tree Lake is an ideal venue for a family holiday or couples getaway set in acres of beautiful countryside and surrounded by wildlife and a short drive from the ferry ports of St Malo, Caen and Le Havre. Your accommodation is a beautiful 3 bedroom stone gite which can sleep 6 to 7 people. The gite is only 100m from the lake.

Just outside the gite there is a private swimming pool with a lovely terrace and bbq area. You also have exclusive use of the 3 acre main lake with carp to excess of 40lbs which can be fished by up to 4 anglers and the small lake which is ideal for beginners and children.

In addition to the swimming pool, there is a ‘den’ which has a full size snooker table and pool table. There is also a trampoline and swings as well as bicycles which are all free to use.

There is lots of wildlife to see on the site including deers that visit, hares and many species of birds many which nest in the garden. The owners also live on the site and are available if you have any problems or help.

Oak Tree Lake is located in Saint-Aubin-des-Châteaux in the Loire-Atlantique department in western France. It is just one and half hours from the ferry port of St Malo, 2 and half hours from Caen and 3 and half hours from Le Havre. From Calais it is just under a 6 hour drive.

The 2 lakes are just a short walk from the gite. The lake is clay bottom and around 2 metres depth throughout. There is a sand bar across the centre of the lake. On the north side of the lake the banks are sloping with willow trees and bushes overhanging the margins. There is a new plantation of trees and shrubs on the south bank. Fishing is allowed anywhere on the lake.

The main lake is well stocked with mirrors and common carp ranging from 20lbs to 45lbs, a sturgeon called Stuart of around 15lbs and some large grass carp. The smaller lake has carp to 20lbs and a good selection of course fish including roach, tench, dace and even goldfish. The fish are being fed on high protein pellets which has resulted in good weight gains each season. It won’t be long at all until the main lake has its first 50lb-er.

There is a small Village just 4km away with a bar, pharmacy, doctors and small shop. There is a Creperie/restaurant 10 minutes walk from the lake and gite. The town of Chateaubriant which has supermarkets is 15 minutes away.
