Disappointing stay – several issues need addressing
Unfortunately, we were not overly happy with the overall condition and organisation of Moulin de Boutineau during our stay.
One of the main issues was that we were not informed that there would also be an Airbnb accommodation on the property. This came as a surprise and would have been useful to know before booking.
The property was also advertised as having free WiFi in all cottages, but this was not the case. The WiFi was only really accessible by sitting very close to the Airbnb accommodation. We felt this was unfair to the guests staying in the cottages, particularly as WiFi was advertised as being available in all of them.
There also seemed to be a lack of basic equipment between the houses. There were not enough plates, cutlery and cups for the number of guests, and on occasions we were asked to move tables and lend items to the other accommodation because they did not have enough themselves. We even ended up helping guests from the Airbnb open their door because it was stuck.
The access to one of the bedrooms was also concerning. The stairs leading up to the room are very tight, and the low head height makes getting in and out difficult. In our opinion, this should be clearly highlighted in the property description before booking, as some guests may find the access difficult and potentially unsafe.
We were charged €75 for cleaning and laundry, but unfortunately we did not feel that the houses were particularly clean when we arrived. We were also told that towels were supplied, but there were not enough towels for the stay and they were not changed during the week.
I had also ordered fishing bait in advance. The information stated that notice was required so that the bait could be prepared, but when we arrived, the bait had not been prepared, which was disappointing as we had arranged this beforehand.
Overall, we felt that the property could benefit from better organisation, maintenance and preparation before guests arrive. There are several things that could easily be improved to make the experience much better.
I would like to make clear that the property manager did try her best to help us, and we appreciated her efforts. However, I feel she may not be fully aware of everything that needs attention at the property, and better communication and management of the accommodation would make a significant difference.
Sadly, based on the condition, preparation and issues we experienced, we were not overly happy with our stay and would not feel able to give the property a strong recommendation in its current condition.
