After taking more than 30 trips to French lakes over the years I can say that there’s only a couple that I’d visit again. Martins lake is one of them.
An idyllic location with abundant wildlife (including wild boar) with a beautiful lake well set out with usable facilities. The hosts, Craig and Isobel (plus the dogs and cats!) are very accommodating and helpful, just enough interaction to make you feel welcome and ensure everything’s ok without crowding you.
The fishing, after all hot summer the water was well down, this didn’t stop the fish feeding but did mean you needed to don waders to land fish but that wasn’t an issue. We had nearly 60 fish between 3 anglers with a fifty and several forties, loads of 30’s and 20’s and a few smaller carp which have obviously been born in the lake.
To summarise, you won’t be disappointed if you want peace, tranquility, good fishing and great hosts. As Arnold says, I’ll be back…
