Map

Lac Baleine is a 23 acre secluded lake located in Champagne region of France set in 40 acres of private land. From Calais the lake can be reached by road in just over 3 hours. Local supermarkets are within easy driving distance.

A maximum of 14 anglers can fish the lake at any one time meaning there is vast water coverage per angler. There are around 350 carp with the lake record a huge 74lbs and over 10 carp over 60lbs. The rest of the stock are generally between the 30lb to 50lb bracket. The lake is fenced all the way around and has a gated entrance.

Lac Baleine is lined with mature overhanging trees and surrounded by fields and woodland meaning you get complete peace and tranquillity.  The lake is rectangular in shape with one end narrowing to about a third of the width of the of the other end of the lake. There are 2 islands, one is in the centre of the lake and is fairly large and can be cast to from a number of swims on either side of the lake. The other island is smaller and towards the wider part of the lake. Both islands are covered by large mature trees which overhang into the water and are natural patrol routes for the carp.

There are 23 spacious swims on the lake which can all accommodate a bivvy. Given that the lake is limited to a maximum of 14 anglers at any one time this means there are always a good selection of free swims if you think a move is required during the course of your session. Approximately 10 to 12 swims are doubles and can accommodate 2 anglers.

The lake is well suited to English style carp fishing and a persistent little and often baiting strategy can pay huge dividends when the fish move in on your baited area. Bait boats are permitted as well as rowing boats. There are no poison chat, crayfish or bream.

Bait is available to purchased on site

Arrival & Departure

  • Anglers may enter the lake from 1:00pm on the day of arrival.

  • The lake must be vacated by 10:00am on departure day.

Swim Allocation

  • A draw takes place every Sunday; all anglers must participate.

  • Fishing is restricted to designated swims only.

  • Bivvies are to be set up only on gravel pitches.

  • Shared bivvies between two swims are not allowed.

Vehicles

  • Vehicles may be used to reach swims and parked beside them. (Note: Swims 20, 21, and 22 are inaccessible by car.)

  • Once parked and set up, vehicles must stay in place — driving around the lake is prohibited.

  • Driving off the marked track will result in charges for damage. Recovery of stuck vehicles will incur a €250 fee.

  • Any unnecessary driving may result in vehicles being relocated to the main car park.

  • The management reserves the right to close the lakeside track during poor conditions to prevent damage or accidents.

Fish Welfare

  • Unhooking mats, weigh slings, landing nets, and carp care kits are supplied. A €50 deposit is required. Personal versions of these items are not permitted.

  • Every fish caught must be treated with a carp care kit before release. All kits will be checked on arrival.

  • No fish may be sacked or retained.

  • Always use a weigh sling to lift fish from the water — never the net. Ensure fins are flat before lifting and always return carp with the sling.

  • Carp weighing 40lb+ must be photographed in the water.

  • Carp weighing 50lb+ must not leave the lake. They must be weighed and photographed in the water with the provided weigh poles.

  • Photographing both sides and recording weights helps monitor fish health and growth.

  • Any injury or abnormality must be reported immediately to the bailiff or owner.

Tackle & Rigs

  • Each angler may use a maximum of three rods, which must not be left unattended.

  • Rods must remain within your designated swim boundaries (see lake map at the lodge).

  • Mainline must be a minimum of 18lb breaking strain or 0.38mm diameter.

  • Only safe rigs are allowed — no bolt rigs. Rigs must allow leads to drop safely. Any unsafe setup must be changed immediately.

  • Hooks: Micro-barbed, size 2 only. Prohibited hooks include long-curve patterns, long-shank nailers, bent hooks, barbless hooks, or set hooks.

  • The use of Magic Twig is banned — offenders will be asked to leave.
