Etang la Saussaie is an 8 acre lake with carp to a huge 74lbs. Surrounded by 15 acres of rural woodland, located in the Champagne Region of France the lake is just over 3 hours drive from Calais.
This lake has a history of producing big carp having previously been home to the world record common at just over 100lbs which passed away in 2013.
This is a big fish water with the majority of the carp over 40lbs and the current lake record 74lbs. A maximum of 6 anglers can fish the lake at any one time giving good water coverage per angler.
There are 14 swims all which can be accessed by vehicle. The swims have been are well spaced around the lake and given a maximum of 6 anglers can fish the lake at any one time there is plenty of opportunity for moving swims of the course of your trip. The lake has four sides, 2 banks are fairly long giving is an almost rectangular shape with is gradually getting wider towards one end. There are many great features to fish to including deep margins and a small island in the middle of the lake which acts as a good half way marker.
Depths range from 8 to 12 feet depending on the time of year. Bait boats are permitted however, the boundaries of each swim are all within fairly easy casting distance.
There are no crayfish, poison chat or bream.
The lake is fully secure being fenced all of the way around including a gate for vehicle access. The surroundings are fields and woodlands for as far as the eye can see. Although Etang la Saussaie is a close drive from local shops, you can easily be fooled to believing that there is not another person for miles around.

A food package consisting of a cooked breakfast and dinner is available.
Access to the lake is permitted from 1:00 PM on arrival day.
All anglers must vacate the site by 10:00 AM on departure day.
Vehicles may be driven to swims for unloading only and can be parked briefly beside them.
Once set up, vehicles must be returned to the main car park unless you are relocating swims.
Driving off the designated track is strictly prohibited; any damage will be charged to the responsible angler.
Recovery of stranded vehicles will incur a €250 fee.
After unloading, all vehicles must be parked in the car park.
The fishery provides unhooking mats, weigh slings, carp care kits, and landing nets. A €50 cash deposit is required upon arrival.
Personal unhooking mats, slings, or nets are not permitted.
Carp care kits must be applied to every fish, on every occasion, to treat mouth damage or other wounds.
Sacking or retaining fish is forbidden.
Fish must be lifted from the water only in a weigh sling, never in the net. Check fins are flat before lifting.
Carp over 40 lb must be photographed in the water.
Carp over 50 lb must remain in the lake; weighing and photography must be done in the water with provided weigh poles.
Where possible, photograph both sides of each fish and record weights. Participation in the weekly catch app is required to help monitor stock health and growth.
Any signs of damage must be reported immediately to the bailiff or owner.
Maximum three rods per angler; rods must never be left unattended.
All rods must be used within your swim boundaries (see lodge map or ask the bailiff).
Prohibited: braided mainline, braided leaders, leadcore, lead-free leaders, Rigmarole, Fox Copper Core, or any form of leader.
Minimum mainline: 18 lb breaking strain (0.38mm diameter).
Only safety rigs are allowed; bolt rigs are banned. All setups must drop the lead safely — unsuitable rigs must be changed immediately.
Hooks: Micro-barbed, size 2 only. Not allowed: long-curve, long-shank, bent, barbless, or set hooks.
The Magic Twig is banned. Offenders will be asked to leave.
Rig and line checks will be carried out before fishing begins and throughout the week.
Fishing is allowed only from designated swims.
Bivvies must be pitched on the gravel areas provided.
Buddy bivvies between swims are not permitted.
All particles, seeds, and maize must be purchased from the fishery. Any outside supplies will be held until departure.
Nuts (including peanuts), maggots, worms, snails, and plastic hook baits are banned.
Bait boats are permitted, but must be used responsibly.
Each bank is equipped with two boats for freeing snagged fish. Life jackets are compulsory.
If a fish becomes snagged, contact the bailiff before using a boat.
Boats must be returned in good condition to their designated mooring points.
Private rowing boats are not allowed.
Anglers have free use of the kitchen, showers, and toilets.
Please bring your own bin bags, towels, kitchen roll, and toilet paper.
Facilities must be left clean after use. A €100 deposit will be held and returned if facilities remain in good order.
Fishing tackle or bait must not be stored in communal areas.
Cutting, pruning, or damaging trees, plants, or vegetation is not permitted.
Maintenance of swims and grounds is carried out weekly by staff only.
No swimming, fires, or open defecation are allowed around the lake.
Drugs are strictly prohibited.
Alcohol is permitted in moderation; intoxicated anglers must reel in their rods and may be asked to leave.
Drunken, antisocial, or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated.
Dogs are not allowed on site.
All rubbish must be removed when leaving.
A €100 deposit per group will be held and refunded if swims are left clean and clear of waste.
Swims will be inspected from 7:30 AM on departure day.
Please show consideration for fellow anglers — noise travels easily across the water.
Any angler who breaks these rules will be required to stop fishing and leave immediately, without refund.
