Étang de la Clarte is a mature, 60-year-old gravel pit set in the peaceful countryside of the Sarthe region in western France. Just 45 minutes from the iconic Le Mans 24-hour circuit, the lake provides a quiet, natural escape ideal for anglers seeking space, tranquillity, and a relaxed social atmosphere.
The lake covers roughly 4 acres (1.6 hectares) and is available exclusively for groups of up to three anglers, ensuring complete privacy and total control of the water for the duration of your stay. The three double swims are positioned close enough to enjoy a social week together, while still providing each angler with comfortable fishing room and clear water in front of them.
The water itself is beautifully clear with a natural turquoise tint, and the lakebed offers a real variety of features — patches of sand and gravel, softer silt areas, and shallower margins depending on the swim. The average depth is around 2m, with variations between 1m and 3m, giving plenty of opportunities for feature finding and bait placement.
Although the venue is fully secluded and off-grid, a well-designed solar system provides the essential comforts needed for a hassle-free stay.
