Regrettably I did not enjoy my time at chestnut pool.
Firstly the pool advertised that it is 1 acre in size and carp to 50lb, I would say the pool measures no more 0.5acre in size. The pool had some large unessersary snags, such as a Huge concrete pole outlet at one end, and large rock snags at the aerator end.
Looking over the catch report book located in the cabin by previous guests, going back the past 3years, nobody has caught a 50lb carp. I cannot find any recent pictures of a 50lb carp.
Whats also not mentioned in the advertisement that there is steep 30+ steps from the cabin to the lake.
I am asmatheic and found it difficult going up and down the stairs, even the outdoor toilet is located at the top of the stairs behind the cabin which was blocked full of fishing tackle.
The amenaties in the cabin were basic.
Bedside lighting in the bedroom was unable to work due to UK plugs being on them with no uk-eu adaptor plug available.
The shower head and frame was loose and nearly coming off the wall.
Nets and weigh slings had large holes in.
I had asked about bait in my message to the owner and he said there was plenty of bait available when I get there onsite. There was 0 options onsite when I got there.
I had to drive 25mins to a local tackle shop for bait.
The fishing was poor, 6 fish all week in perfect weather conditions, plenty of fish jumping and showing on day one, I noticed a multicoloured oily looking slick on the water which got progressively worse, after a few days this covered approximately 70% of the pool, with also what looked like green algae starting to form.
The fish had stopped jumping and showing at this stage after this had formed.
I sent pictures to the owner and informed him of this which he replied he hoped the fish would be ok…and he thinks it’s because its autumn after asking a friend of his.
I have been fishing 30years and have never seen a pool turn like that in the autumn.
And if it was, you would expect that the owner would know this from previous years…
After spending £1800 on this trip including ferry fees, I expected more.
