China Lake is a mature tree lined 17 acre lake set in 80 acres of private woodland located in Les Kaolins in Southern Brittany. The lake is easily accessed from ferry ports, Roscoff being the nearest one which is approximately two and a half hours drive away.

China Lake was formally known as Kaolin pits and is one of 4 lakes on the complex, three of which are available to fish. The other two lakes being Little China Lake which will be opening in 2018 and Lac Noir, a catfish lake, which opening in 2017.

The lake holds carp in excess of 60lbs although it continues to throw up surprise unknown fish which adds to the excitement and mystery of the lake.

There are 10 swims which are well spread across the lake ensuring each swim has plenty of water coverage whilst also giving the option for stalking in quieter areas of the lake during the day.

The lakes were formally clay pits excavated for the China clay, hence the name, over 100 years ago. Over the last 40 years they have evolved into truly stunning fishing lakes and as a result it is not known exactly what fish are in the lakes when the lakes were purchased by the current owners a few years ago.

The fish stock consists of approximately 400 carp which are a mixture of mirrors, stunning dark commons and leathers. There is also a lovely orange and black koi which has been named Kevin.

The 2015 season produced carp to the upper 40lb mark, the largest of which was 47lb 10oz.

The 2016 finished tremendously with a new lake record of just over 60lbs which was a previously unknown fish! The exact fish stock is unknown and with the lakes being in existence for nearly 100 years there could be other uncaught monsters swimming beneath the surface.

In 2017 so far three different fish of 49lbs have been landed so it is only a matter of time for the lake’s first 50lb carp.

Each swim can easily accommodate a bivvy but to make the stay even more enjoyable there are excellent lake side facilities. These include a restaurant and bar area which has a pool table and satellite TV making it an excellent place to unwind after a days fishing.
